Children Connect with Nature on World Forest Day at Nandankanan
On the occasion of World Forest Day, Damodar Ropeways & Infra Limited organized a special environmental awareness program at Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar. The initiative focused on connecting children with nature while strengthening their understanding of environmental conservation, forest resources, and biodiversity.
A Meaningful Initiative for Young Minds
As part of the program, 32 children from a local children’s home were invited to participate in an immersive learning experience. The objective was clear — encourage young minds to appreciate forests not just as scenic landscapes, but as vital ecosystems that sustain life.
The children were taken on a ropeway ride offering panoramic aerial views of Nandankanan’s dense greenery and the scenic Kanjia Lake. The experience provided a rare perspective of the forest canopy, making environmental learning interactive, visual, and memorable. For many of them, it was their first time witnessing nature from such a height — an experience that sparked curiosity and excitement.
Insightful Interaction with Education Leaders
The event was graced by Milan Panda, Education Head, Nandankanan, and Rupsana Pradhan from the Education Department, who actively engaged with the children throughout the program.
They emphasized the importance of forest conservation, biodiversity protection, and responsible environmental behavior. Through interactive discussions, they encouraged children to understand their role in preserving natural resources and becoming environmentally responsible citizens in the future.
Their presence added educational depth to the initiative, reinforcing that awareness must begin early and be guided by informed leadership.
Learning Through Engagement
To make the session more dynamic, an environmental quiz competition was organized. The children participated enthusiastically, answering questions related to wildlife, forest ecosystems, and conservation practices. Winners were felicitated with prizes, motivating participants and reinforcing key environmental messages.
Officials from the ropeway and zoological park further highlighted how sustainable infrastructure solutions — such as ropeways — can promote tourism while maintaining minimal environmental impact. The discussion underlined that development and conservation can go hand in hand when planned responsibly.
Media Coverage and Wider Impact
The initiative received coverage in leading newspapers including Navbharat and Dainik Jagran, further amplifying the message of environmental responsibility and community engagement.
The media recognition reflects the growing importance of corporate-led sustainability initiatives and highlights the positive impact of such programs within the community.
Building a Greener Future
Through this initiative, Damodar Ropeways & Infra Limited reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and community engagement. The program was not just an event — it was a step toward nurturing environmentally aware future citizens.
World Forest Day served as a reminder that protecting forests is a shared responsibility. By combining experience, education, and engagement, the event successfully inspired children to connect with nature in a meaningful way — a lesson that will stay with them far beyond a single day.
